The escape was a success. Freedom finally lay before them. But of all people, Evita might pay for it with her life.
After a desperate struggle through San Misa and a perilous escape to the harbor, Princess Evita and her companions actually make it to the ship that will save them. But the ordeal has taken a heavy toll—and Evita has been seriously injured.
Her condition is steadily worsening. When she realizes that her injuries could jeopardize the ship’s departure—and thus the safety of the others—Evita makes a decision that is entirely in character: She wants to leave the ship and stay behind. She would rather risk her own life than endanger the freedom of her fellow fighters.
But Diego refuses to leave her to her fate. He promises to accompany Evita on the dangerous journey to a healer—and to ensure that one day she will be reunited with the women who rose up against San Misa alongside her.
And so their paths part for the time being. While her companions sail toward the freedom they’ve fought for, a new battle begins for Evita. For her story is far from over—and Hari still hasn’t paid for the blood of Batalia.
