The Royal Monstrological Society is truly exquisite. Each year, the Society admits only a single aspiring monstrologist into its elite ranks. To be accepted into the circle of the most renowned monster experts in the entire Empire of Legends and Lore, applicants must present the most impressive and magnificent menageries of monstrous creatures.
That is why the competing contenders embark on voyages of discovery to magical lands in search of the most exotic animals. At the end of the fourth hunting season, the contestants finally present their collections. For this occasion, the Royal Monstrological Society gathers for an annual banquet better known as the Carnival of Monsters. In the draft card game Carnival of Monsters, players collect country cards to capture the most extraordinary and exotic monsters. In the end, the player with the most spectacular menagerie wins.
How to Play Carnival of Monsters:
- At the start of the game, each player receives 4 crowns and 2 starting lands. 4 season cards are selected at random. The card deck (consisting of: land, monster, secret objective, employee, and event cards) is shuffled and placed on the game board.
- There are four seasons (rounds). Each season consists of 4 phases.
- Phase 1: The first season card is revealed. It indicates which types of monsters will earn special rewards in the current round.
- Phase 2: Each player receives eight cards. From these, each player selects one and places it face down in front of them. They pass the remaining cards to the player on their left. After all players have selected a card, they either play it or add it to their hand and pay any associated costs. This process is repeated ...
- Phase 3: Players check to see if they were able to tame dangerous monsters. If a player cannot tame their monsters, they must pay a penalty.
- Phase 4: The season pass is evaluated. The player board is reset, and the next season begins.
- The winner is the player who has earned the most victory points from monsters and objective cards by the end of the fourth season.
