Our comics, manga, and books are standard retail items and—unless otherwise expressly stated for a specific item—are not sold as flawless collector’s items or graded copies.
All items from our online store are also part of our in-store selection. They are typically displayed unboxed on the shelves so that our customers can view and browse through them. If there are multiple copies of a title available, some of them may still be in their original packaging or shrink-wrapped.
Comics and books, in particular, sometimes arrive with minor signs of wear resulting from production, shipping, or storage—such as fine scratches, creases, or slight visual imperfections. Unfortunately, we have no control over this. Over time, additional minor wear may also occur due to display in the store.
If you place particular importance on the item being in the best possible condition or in its original packaging, please contact us before placing your order. We’ll be happy to take a closer look at the item you’re interested in and can send you photos in advance if needed.
Of course, statutory warranty rights remain unaffected by this.
Once upon a time, there was a boy named Tién …
Life rarely goes like a fairy tale, but there are stories that are part of our identity—stories that hold our secrets. By sharing these stories with others, we tell them about ourselves.
Tién is no exception; he still enjoys reading his favorite stories aloud to his parents from books he borrows from the local library. Especially for Tién, who was born and raised in the U.S., and his mother, who had to flee Vietnam, fairy tales like “Allerleirauh” or “The Little Mermaid” are more than just a tool for learning the language of their new home together.
From these emerges a unique form of communication—a new language through which they attempt to process past and present experiences: emotions, hopes, expectations, or their roles within the family structure. In the stories that connect him to his family, Tién ultimately embarks on a search for the words to tell his family about his homosexuality.
THE MAGICAL FISH skillfully and creatively weaves together the narrative dimensions of the past, present, and fairy tales with the perspectives of its characters. Through Trung Le Nguyen’s lens, sensitive topics are brought to life in beautiful illustrations. An astonishing graphic novel for readers of all ages about family, identity, and culture—and the magical power of stories to bring us all together.
