Our comics, manga, and books are standard retail items and—unless otherwise expressly stated for a specific item—are not sold as flawless collector’s items or graded copies.
All items from our online store are also part of our in-store selection. They are typically displayed unboxed on the shelves so that our customers can view and browse through them. If there are multiple copies of a title available, some of them may still be in their original packaging or shrink-wrapped.
Comics and books, in particular, sometimes arrive with minor signs of wear resulting from production, shipping, or storage—such as fine scratches, creases, or slight visual imperfections. Unfortunately, we have no control over this. Over time, additional minor wear may also occur due to display in the store.
If you place particular importance on the item being in the best possible condition or in its original packaging, please contact us before placing your order. We’ll be happy to take a closer look at the item you’re interested in and can send you photos in advance if needed.
Of course, statutory warranty rights remain unaffected by this.
The graphic novel on which the major Disney+ action comedy is based
AMERICAN BORN CHINESE is a partly autobiographical work penned by the masterful New York Times bestselling author Gene Yang (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER) and tells the story of three characters who, at first glance, seem to have nothing in common: Jin Wang, who moves with his family to a new neighborhood, only to discover that he is the only student of Chinese-American descent at his new school; the mighty Monkey King, the central figure of one of the oldest and greatest Chinese fables; and Chin-Kee, the embodiment of the worst Chinese stereotype, who ruins his cousin Danny’s life time and again with his annual visits. Their lives and stories are about to collide in this thrilling modern fable following an unexpected twist.
Gene Luen Yang, the fifth U.S. National Ambassador for Children’s Literature and a MacArthur Fellow, was a finalist for the 2006 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for *American Born Chinese*, and in 2007 he received the Michael L. Printz Award, won the Eisner Award in the category “Best Graphic Album: New,” was nominated in the “Best Coloring” category, and was honored with the title “Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year.”
