Denji doesn’t have big dreams. A roof over his head, enough to eat, and maybe a girlfriend someday would be enough for him. Unfortunately, his everyday life consists mainly of debt, demons, and the mafia.
From his late father, Denji inherited one thing above all else: a massive mountain of debt to the yakuza. To somehow make ends meet, he hunts demons and sells everything he can spare. There isn’t much left of a normal life.
His only real friend is Pochita, a little demon with a chainsaw on his head. After Denji once saved his life, the two fight demons together—until a mission ends in disaster and Denji himself faces death.
But Pochita isn’t ready to let his friend go. Through their bond, Denji is given a second life and the incredible ability to transform into Chainsaw Man: a human-demon hybrid with chainsaws for a head and arms.
Of course, a guy with running chainsaws for body parts doesn’t go unnoticed for long. Before long, the government’s demon-hunting organization takes notice of Denji—and his already chaotic life reaches a whole new level of chaos.
Chainsaw Man 01 is the kickoff to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga series, which is as brutal as it is delightfully wacky: full of demons, dark humor, spectacular action, and a hero whose life goals are refreshingly far removed from the usual “I’ll be the strongest!” routine.
