Gunpla is short for “Gundam Plastic Model” and refers to the plastic model kits from the popular Japanese Gundam universe, which are manufactured by Bandai. The first Gunpla models were released as early as 1980 and have been delighting modelers and anime fans worldwide ever since.
The Gunpla Philosophy: Model Building for Everyone
Gunpla kits are designed so that they can be assembled without glue and, in most cases, without painting. The parts are pre-molded in color and can be easily snapped together. This makes them suitable for both beginners and experienced modelers.
The Main Gunpla Classes (Grades)
- HG (High Grade) – 1:144 scale, ideal for beginners and collectors.
- MG (Master Grade) – 1:100 scale, with a detailed internal skeleton and a higher level of detail.
- PG (Perfect Grade) – 1:60 scale, the most technically sophisticated and highly detailed models.
- RG (Real Grade) – 1:144 scale, combines the size of an HG with the level of detail of an MG.
- SD Gundam (Super Deformed) – Figures with oversized heads and a cute, stylized design.
- Mega Size – Extra-large models in 1:48 scale.
In addition, there are numerous other series and special editions. The lineup is further expanded by different scales, revised versions, and anniversary models. As a result, Gunpla offers the right kit for virtually every taste and level of experience.
