That's not good, Ashley. You're my assistant—have you forgotten that?
Aren't I in the process of forgetting it myself right now?
Alarm bells start ringing in my head, screaming at me to get out of here, but I can’t bring myself to do it. The heat of her body is intoxicating. The tension that’s been building inside me since this morning—when she blocked my car and I caught a whiff of her scent—doesn’t seem to be letting up. I can’t explain this attraction, and as the music fades, I decide not to worry about it anymore. I focus on the waist my arm is wrapped around, the pressure of her fingers on my skin, and her scent washing over me.
Ashley shows no sign of turning around to face me, and I prefer to stay nestled against her back. Maybe it’s easier not to be confronted with the reality of our mutual desire.
My hand spreads out like a fan across her stomach. I feel her muscles tense beneath my hand. An uncontrollable urge to tear her clothes off overwhelms me, and I whisper in her ear, “That’s not wise, Miss Fury.”
Her fingernails dig into my wrist. She turns her head slightly to the side to meet my gaze, and I dive into it, lose myself in it. Her lips draw me in like magic, and I lean down to kiss her, overcome with desire, just as the music takes an abrupt turn and shatters the sizzling atmosphere that had been between us. Ashley tenses up as I bite my lip hard, furious at my loss of control.
Without loosening my grip, I whisper very close to her, “Don’t let your guard down.”
