Ryouka and her friend Shuuhei gradually have to accept a terrifying truth: "X" – also known as "Sai" – keeps reappearing in new forms. But that's not all: Behind this eerie presence apparently lurks a man-eating creature that deliberately chooses its victims.

As the two try to understand the pattern behind the incidents, everything increasingly feels like a grim game – with rules they don't know and stakes that are deadly. Reality and game blur, and every wrong step could be their last.
