Once upon a time, the elves lived in close harmony with the dragons. They enslaved the lizard-people and ensured that the dragon hatchlings were cared for by them. The elves’ greed for gold grew boundless, and they took whatever they desired. Thanks to the dragons’ protection, hardly any people could stand up to them. But eventually, the dragons died and were forgotten. Yet no one forgot the elves’ deeds...
The Lizardfolk are an ancient people. For a long time, they lived in slavery—enslaved by the elves, enslaved by the dragons. But a dragonlord named Dothrak helped the Lizardfolk gain their independence. When the dragons fell, Dothrak was also slain. The Lizardfolk fled into the forests and built their own monumental cities. Now their revenge against their former masters, the Elves, was about to begin...
Lords of War is a strategic card game. In its basic form, it is played by two players, but with special rules, it can also be played with more players. The game mechanics are very easy to learn. Nevertheless, the game never gets boring, as players discover entirely new tactics and strategies as they gain more experience.
Each player plays with a deck of 36 cards. The cards represent various units from their respective armies. The cards feature attack arrows that indicate the strength and direction in which each unit may attack and deal damage. When playing cards, players must carefully consider where to place their units, as all damage is always resolved simultaneously. It is not uncommon for two units to destroy each other. There are melee and ranged units. Depending on which army you play, the focus varies.
The winner is the first player to destroy a total of 20 enemy units or 4 of the opponent's command units.
Lords of War won the 2013 UK Games Expo Award in the Best Strategic Card Game category.
