Myth is a cooperative dungeon-crawling board game for 1–5 players who team up to battle the darkness. Each hero has different abilities represented by card decks. The heroes work together to face all kinds of enemies in a continuous storyline. Each story the characters face consists of three acts, each lasting about two hours of playtime.

In Myth, these unique and vastly different heroes are controlled using a deck of cards. With their deck, each player has a major influence on the course of the story while still enjoying a great deal of freedom in choosing their actions. Cooperation and communication are the keys to success and sheer survival. Without communication, cooperation, and mutual aid, darkness will prevail.

Myth is a fully cooperative game in which no player has to control the Darkness. The antagonists are controlled by rules based on the card deck of each unique boss. If the players become overzealous, the Darkness pushes them back by activating hideouts (spawn points) or summoning Captains, or punishes them with insidious events. If the heroes become too cautious and subtle, the Darkness reacts by reducing the chances of finding treasures and rewards. Without upgrading equipment and abilities, the difficulty increases and failure becomes more likely. The dynamic way in which the Darkness operates creates a fluid gameplay experience. No player is affected by factors entirely beyond their control, and the strategic skills (or lack thereof) of a human opponent have no impact on the enjoyment of the game.
